Boosting Morale – Team Building and Corpporate Events

In the current economic climate employers are looking at ways to streamline businesses and cut costs, measures taken by employers can sometimes stretch employees by asking that they take on extra tasks on occasion without the ability to offer any financial reward.  This is where corporate events are great ideas.

This may seem to contradict the need to cut costs but a corporate event need not be an expensive and lavish affair.  A drink after work with colleagues can be a great team building session.

The point of a corporate event is to spend time with your colleagues in a more informal setting and get to know the people that you spend your working days discussing business matters with.

You can go on team building “away days” these are great if an entire department has been restructured, long serving employees may have left and there can be some resentment from remaining staff members when new people join the company, the away day will act as a way to break down barriers by using role play, physical activities, games anything that gets people talking to each other and building relationships.  The person leading the session will usually comfort the participants that all said within the sessions is confidential and that there is no such thing as a stupid question, this usually helps even the most reserved of a team to participate.   It is well worth a business investing in one of these if a major change in teams has take place to help regain confidence and rebuild morale.  Everyone is relaxed they aren’t working to tight deadlines, being interrupted by telephone calls so is fully receptive to the team building process, they fully engage and the business reaps the rewards.  Internal business relationships are formed and strengthened; the day-to-day act of business is more pleasant as a result.

For teams that have worked together for a long period of time a drink after work can be a great way to simply catch up, the day to day is full of work based conversation and there is little time for small talk.  The workplace can be a more enjoyable place if the human element is catered to from time to time.
